Michael T. Walsh is a Co-founder of BSWB. Michael is an AV-rated attorney who has developed expertise in reinsurance, excess and primary coverage disputes, professional liability matters, coverage investigations, mass tort litigation, broker and intermediary errors and omissions cases, employment practices liability, as well as RICO claims and regulatory matters.

Mike was formerly in-house counsel at Skandia-America Reinsurance Corporation where he instituted and headed a national litigation program on their excess and reinsured professional liability exposure.

He has obtained favorable results on both the ceded and assumed side in arbitrations involving most major reinsurance issues, including allocation on environmental claims, finite risk, rescission actions, matters involving ECO and loss in excess of policy limits, as well as underlying clergy sexual misconduct professional liability issues. In addition, he has been involved in litigation based on allegations against reinsurance intermediaries, including the successful defense of a RICO action.

Mike also has extensive experience in negotiating the commutation of reinsurance contracts, as well as the performance of other financial analyses that are vital to the strategic plans of runoff operations, including claim and underwriting audits and litigation management over entire books of business.

He has obtained favorable verdicts and settlements in many areas of professional liability including claims against attorneys, accountants and insurance and reinsurance brokers and intermediaries.

Mike was a founding partner of the New York firm of Walsh & Sheehan, LLP, which joined its litigation and arbitration practice in the areas of professional liability and insurance and reinsurance with Peterson & Ross, LLC in July of 2000.

He is a certified Arbitrator and Mediator for AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society (ARIAS-US). He is also a member of the Law Committee of ARIAS-US and the chair of the Advance Planning Committee of AIRROC (Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Run-Off Companies). Mike has authored numerous articles and lectures frequently on topics in the insurance and reinsurance fields.

Mr. Walsh represents the Estate of Martin Ramirez, the deceased Mexican artist who created over 400 known drawings while confined to California State Mental Hospitals from 1931 to 1963. Ramirez has been described as "one of the greatest artists of the Twentieth Century" by The New York Times. His heirs include 13 adult grandchildren who now receive compensation for the drawings, "Life Story Rights", and copyright issues.
