| Evan Shapiro focuses her practice
on representing insurers in connection with all
types of business and professional liability insurance
in complex matters including directors and officers
liability, banking and other financial institutions
errors and omissions liability, ERISA and other
fiduciary liability, employment practices liability,
mutual funds and investment adviser errors and omissions
liability, agents and brokers errors and omissions
and insurance company errors and omissions liability.
Evan also has expertise in many of the underlying substantive
issues faced by the insureds in these types of policies such
as securities fraud and derivative actions, accounting fraud
issues, banking liability, corporate governance and insurance
company and insurance broker duties. Further, Evan has regularly
litigated coverage issues in various civil courts as well as
bankruptcy courts.
A significant portion of Evan's practice entails
providing advice pertaining to insurance underwriting and
new product development. Evan has assisted many clients in
drafting both specimen insurance policies and specialized
manuscript policies as well as endorsements with respect to
unique risks. Evan also has aided clients in the regulatory
filing of insurance products.
Evan has and is currently working on a number of
significant cases including the large securities fraud actions
filling headlines today. For example, Evan represented a carrier
in connection with the multiple actions against Lucent
Technologies, which resulted in what the Stanford Law School
Securities Class Action web site lists as the second largest
post-reform act settlement. She currently represents carriers
which insure major accounting firms under attack by the IRS,
the U.S. Congress and clients in connection with tax shelter
products.
Evan writes and has published articles of interest on
developments in the law and has lectured and co-chaired seminars
on directors and officers liability for the Association of the
Bar of the City of New York.
