Ted has spent more than 30 years specializing in the field of directors and officers,
financial institutions, professional liability insurance, corporate governance and risk
management. Ted has handled many of the most significant cases in the fields of professional
and directors and officers liability insurance and also has written and spoken widely on
those subjects throughout the world with notable speaking engagements throughout the U.S.
as well as at international conferences in London, Tokyo, Bangkok and Manilla. During that
time span he has litigated and mediated countless complex directors & officers, financial
institutions and professional liability claims involving U.S. and worldwide exposures,
many of them emanating from the U.S. savings and loan crisis, the U.S. recessions of
the mid 70’s, early 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s and the Great Recession resulting from the
U.S. sub prime and credit crisis.
He has authored a chapter in the book, The ART of Risk Management, by Christopher Culp,
published by Wiley Finance in 2005, focusing on Alternative Risk Transfer, capital
structure and the convergence of the insurance and capital markets. The chapter addresses
the convergence of insurance and investment banking in connection with Representations and
Warranties insurance and other insurance products designed to facilitate corporate
transactions. It was reprinted in Structured Finance & Insurance, the ART of Managing
Capital and Risk, also by Christopher Culp, published in 2006 by Wiley Finance. He has
also authored Directors’ and Officers’ Insurance: A Digest of Cases (4th edition, 1995),
as well as several articles in publications such as the Tort and Insurance Law Journal,
Japan Insurance News and Review of Financial Services Regulation.
Ted has served as the Chair of the America Bar Association Subcommittee on Directors
and Officers Insurance Coverage Litigation. He has also served on the Boards, of the
Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), the insurance industry organization
established to provide support and education in the field of professional liability, and
the PLUS Foundation, the leading philanthropic force in the professional liability community.
Ted is very proud that he was recognized with the prestigious PLUS1 Award by the Professional
Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) on November 14th 2005. The PLUS1 Award is presented
to a person whose efforts have contributed substantially to the advancement and the image
of the professional liability industry.
